Jacob Libermann was born in 1804, fifth son of Rabbi Lazarus Libermann. At age 22, on Christmas Eve of 1826, he was baptized into the Catholic Church. Subsequently and prior to his ordination to the priesthood in 1841, he founded the Society of the Missionaries of the Immaculate Heart. Pope Gregory XVI had said that Libermann would one day be a saint. Pope Pius IX declared him Venerable. This work by G. Lee contains liberal quotations from the writings of LIbermann.
